It’s expected that every company should have a presence on the internet and the companies that don’t are generally looked down upon. I've been designing websites and online marketing strategy for six years now and I've seen plenty of examples of how much a website can do for a company.
It’s true that anyone can put together a website these days, however the chances of that website representing your company in a professional fashion are slim. I’d argue to stay clear of companies offering website’s for figures of around £250-500, these are usually low quality template sites that a thousand other companies could also be using.
In my opinion the most important thing when working with a company to create a website is online marketing strategy.
In the majority of websites that we create the company wishes to be found though search engines. Therefore it's vital that a full online marketing consultation is carried out before any design work is started. Afterall, it is pretty pointless having a website that noone can find your company for.
